On my annual October visit to Las Vegas last week to play my NFL Super Bowl futures I stumbled on to a late college play at the Palazzo. I played 20 units on the LSU Tigers to win the college football championship at odds of 100 to 1. I rarely play on a college team once the season starts but after watching the Tigers play Florida I felt they had an excellent chance to upset Georgia last Saturday. Upset?? LSU looked much the better team in a thorough trouncing of the Bulldogs. They moved up to #5 in Monday’s AP Poll only one spot away from the playoffs. I love their defense and I believe if they can avoid a letdown versus Mississippi  State on Saturday night they will be in great shape coming off a bye week to face Alabama at home on November 3, 2018. The sports books in Las Vegas have taken notice as well with the Westgate posting REVISED odds of 40 to 1 on Tuesday morning. The untested Crimson Tide might be in for a surprise when they come up against the crew from Baton Rouge.

Now to the REAL reason I was in Vegas. Obviously the Rams are so far the team to beat if you want to win the Super Bowl but as the regular visitors to this site know I do not bet favorites and at 2 to 1 or less all over the Strip the Rams are indeed heavy favorites. This year I invested 600 units spread over four teams. Let’s start with my two 200 unit plays the Saints and the Chiefs. I got odds of 9 to 1 on the Saints and 6 to 1 on the Chiefs. Both teams have terrific offenses but are suspect on the other side of the ball. The next two plays, the Ravens and the Bears, have strong defenses but weak offenses but at odds of 25 to 1 on both I think they are worth 100 unit plays. Anyone who watched the Ravens sack the Titan QB Marriota eleven times last Sunday has to be impressed. I know I am.  The question is in today’s NFL can they slow down all the high octane offenses that exist especially in light of all the rule changes favoring the QBs and receivers.

So here is a summary of this trip’s plays:

  • LSU         20 units      100/1 (Late college play)
  • Saints    200 units        9/1
  • Chiefs    200 units        6/1
  • Ravens   100 units      25/1
  • Bears      100 units      25/1
