Every time I go to Vegas I see changes in the landscape of sports wagering. This time I came to the realization that eventually William Hill is going to own the activity of sports betting in Sin City. They have taken over operations at The M, The Stratosphere as well as Arizona Charlies since I was there in January. Why is this important and relative? Well less difference in available odds and fewer choices when betting sports futures is not a good thing. If you are a regular follower of this space you will know that it pays to shop when placing futures bets. Meanwhile Californian politicians are in no hurry to even put the sports betting issue on the ballot let alone begin the process of opening legal sports books across the state. Gee, I wonder if Las Vegas has some influence on said politicians? Either way the more options the better for a guy like me who loves to play the sports futures and that does not look like the direction we are going in.

This year my focus was on two teams for my MLB plays. As always I eliminated the repeaters (Dodgers and Red Sox) as well as the favorites (Astros and Dodgers again).I played 400 units on the Cardinals and Rays both at 9/1 odds to win their respective pennants. I also wagered 200 units on the Rays to take down the World Series at odds of 15/1. The odds were best at The Golden Nugget.

My final word is about this year’s Kentucky Derby. I have been following and wagering on horse racing for 55 years and all I have to say about what took place on Saturday is that in all those years I cannot remember a jockey whose mount was not interfered with placing an objection on behalf of the jockeys and horses who were. Also why did the fact that Jon Court had also placed an objection (supposedly) not mentioned on the telecast? Bottom line if these three stewards are the very best in Kentucky why were they not the ones who caused the inquiry and why would they refuse to meet with the owners of Maximum Security on SATURDAY? If you think I am crying the blues over a lost bet nothing could be further from the truth. Moving Court House up for the win made my “All Other Horses” wager in pool number four of the Kentucky Derby Futures a winner at odds of 19/1.  Either way it is yet another black eye on the FORMER Sport of Kings, Thanks for logging in and whether you are playing the futures or the individual games “Good Luck”.
