This year’s MLB season started on April 7th a full week later than usual. My math model of MLB champions is for April 30th every year. Thus, I had to adjust my schedule to fit this year’s season. Then I hit another roadblock when an illness in my family (Zack the cat) delayed my trip to Vegas yet another week. I have very specific cut off dates for betting the futures in every sport based on sample size and knowing when sports books will adjust their lines and my picks will lose precious value. Picking winners is one thing but getting them at a good number is just as important in the long run.

I knew on the drive over that it would be too late to bet the pennants so zeroing in on the World Series odds was my top priority. My thoughts were confirmed when the three teams I like most to win their pennants were available at these odds:

  • Yankees Best Odds +350 (Worst Odds +180)
  • Dodgers Best Odds +245 (Worst Odds +150)
  • Mets Best Odds 5/1 (Worst Odds 2/1)

The Dodgers have the best team numbers I have seen since the 1984 Detroit Tigers. Those same Tigers won the American League East by 15 games and took out the Padres 4 games to 1 in the World Series. The best available odds on the Dodgers to be World Champions were +475 at the Circa Circa (the newest and largest Fremont-street casino). The only problem I have with that establishment is that they require your driver’s license to be scanned before entering. Is this still the free world?

Across the street at the Nugget my reception was once again not a warm one (See my May 11, 2021 post). When I asked them to print out the MLB odds they asked me who I liked and when I told the ticket writer I need the odds for ALL the teams he told me to go pull a sheet off the wall. My 50 plus years of Vegas visits tells me those same sheets are never up to date. When I asked him that very question his reply was “NOT LIKELY”. I think the Nugget has made it very clear they do not want my business.

Well getting 400 units down on the Dodgers at +475 was not the only play I made. I also put the same amount on the Yankees at 6/1 and the Mets at 9/1. The two New York teams look to me as the only two that pose a threat to the Dodgers. I know the odds are not what we are used to but I still think there is a very good chance one of these three squads will be World Champions and thus providing us with a profitable 2022 MLB season. I also love the fact that all three are $$$ rich and willing to buy what they need to win a championship. Thanks for logging in and if you are playing the individual games Good Luck!!
