And the Oscar Goes To

Those of you who follow me in sports know my goal is to be right 60% of the time. Seventeen years ago two friends challenged me to do the same with the Academy Awards. Well I have done better than that picking 57 of 81 over the last 16 years for a 70% winning margin to include 15 of my last 16 picks. Now I make no claim of being any kind of judge of theatrical talent and in fact I have only seen one nominated picture (Argo) and walked out of the Life of Pi when the critters started killing each other. Just like in sports my picks are based solely on statistics and here is what my numbers say about tonight’s marathon:

• Best Picture Argo Won
• Best Director Steven Spielberg Lost
• Best Actor Daniel Day Lewis Won
• Best Actress Jennifer Lawrence Won
• Best Supporting Actor Tommy Lee Jones (Toughest Pick) Lost
• Best Supporting Actress Anne Hathaway Won
