2012 MLB Futures All but Dead

After two consecutive winning years in the MLB futures market I am on the brink of losing all 500 units wagered in Vegas this past May 6th. My only hope is a 20 unit ticket on the Cardinals to win the World Series at 20/1. The irony of that is that I never bet repeaters and rarely wager on teams to win the World Series but a first time visit to a place called Jerry’s Nugget in North Las Vegas changed all that. Their Series odds were over the top so I decided to wager 20 units on each of my pennant choices (Orioles, Rays, Dodgers and Nationals) as well as the defending champion Cardinals who had the best stats in the National League at the time. I refuse to wager on defending champions to repeat not because I don’t believe they can but because if you are going to win at playing the futures in the long run you need to lay off teams at less than 5 to 1. The best available odds on the AL Pennant winning Tigers was 7/2 which is well under my 5/1 guideline and although the Cards were available at 7/1 to win the NL Pennant I have found it more profitable to toss the repeaters. Given the beat down I suffered last weekend with the Nats losing after being one strike away from advancing I feel fortunate to have the hard hitting Cards one win away from returning to the Series. If they do make it they have the most important home field advantage thanks to Bud Selig and the disgraced All Star MVP Melky Cabrera. Sometimes you just have to be lucky in this game but don’t try and tell the Washington National that.
